Tim Bowtell is set to tackle another huge project – the Katamatite silos.

Excited at the prospect of painting his third silo project – the Benalla artist has also painted silos in St James and Colbinabbin – Bowtell thanked the Katamatite silo committee and community for choosing him as their artist of choice.
“I’m really stoked about it, and to be represented in multiple local towns I feel really fortunate,” Bowtell said.
“I kind of knew nothing of it, they approached me to see if I would do it. They said they liked my previous work and what I do.
“I really appreciate they’re using local artists.
“I hope we can come up with and execute something that impresses the community, and hopefully brings the tourist in as it has with Colbinabbin.”
But the double concrete project at Katamatite should be a “little less daunting” than the Colbinabbin silos, which Bowtell said had up to five different themes.
“I’ve had a bit of a break since Colbinabbin,” he said.
“Obviously the multiple themes make it more challenging.
“Katamatite, with the double concrete, should have just a couple.”
Bowtell said the hope was to nail down a design by Christmas before getting to work on the silo in the autumn.
“The design is still to come, the committee has put it out to the community for ideas, and several ideas have come back,” he said.
“We’ll go through a process with the different choices and narrow it down to a few different themes.”
Bowtell also confirmed with The Ensign he had stepped down from his role as president of the North East Artisans committee because of his busy work schedule.
“I hope to exhibit some of my work in future there, and I’ve still got the studio at 122 Bridge St,” he said.
